Resources for Hiring Disabled Veterans (Unpaid and Paid) into Federal Service

Non-Paid Work Experience

Managers within Federal, State, or local government agencies can offer eligible disabled veterans the opportunity to obtain practical job experience in the civilian workforce that relates to their recent area of study or training.  Managers can use this opportunity as an internship, to enhance current staffing on special projects, and to help transition new staff with retiring employees over a three to six month assignment.  No FTE is required!

Operation Warfighter

The Department of Defense Military Severely Injured Center sponsors Operation Warfighter, a temporary assignment or internship program for Service members who are undergoing therapy at military treatment facilities in the United States.  Operation Warfighter is designed to provide recuperating Service members with meaningful activity outside of the hospital environment that assists in their wellness and offers a formal means of transition back to the military or civilian workforce.
